How Can Congregations and Individuals Help?
Donations. Our donations will help LSS stock the store with appropriate items. Many of us are using our MLC donation boxes to help others experience the gift of giving this Christmas! A great way to teach your children sharing their resources. Checks
are also welcome in an envelope. Make checks either to MLC or LSS & designate in the memo: LSS Christmas Store. Donations will be turned in Sunday, Oct 17. THANK YOU!
Working at the Store
It will take many people for set up, sales, and restocking the store on the days it is open. If you are able to help, please leave your name and phone with Kathryn or the church office.
2) Lutheran Social Service of MN
is Celebrating its 145th Anniversary!
As a strong supporter of LSS, MLC has been invited to participate in this gala event.
The LSS Gala Celebration is Saturday, September 18, 2010, 5:30 – 9:00 p.m. at the Hilton Minneapolis. The evening will feature two generations of a family working on behalf of LSS over the years: Jim Klobuchar and his daughter, Senator Amy Klobuchar, in dialogue about choosing public service as avocation and vocation.
Cost is $75/person of which $40 is tax deductible. The evening includes a reception, dinner, program, auction, and dessert buffet. This will be a great dress-up event! Please turn in your name and check made out to LSS (write 'Gala' in memo) to Kathryn or the church office by Labor Day Sunday, Sept 5.
3) Tuesdays Together
The mission of Tuesday’s together would be to offer a place for people of the Phillips neighborhood to congregate, feel a sense of community, receive education on health and wellness, enjoy a meal, understand what services at Center for Changing Lives are available to them, interact with people they may otherwise never meet, and find friendship.
When: The second Tuesday of each month from October – May (MLC would do it ONCE)
Times: 5:45 – 7:30 p.m.
Where: Center for Changing Lives, Minneapolis
Who: Targeted to LSS clients from housing, Grandfamily Program, refugee and counseling services. Also, clients served by Messiah Lutheran Church and seniors in surrounding high rises. But open to everyone in the neighborhood.
What: A meal, a health fair, children’s reading circles and activities and an opportunity for adult education

Making Meals:
This exciting new opportunity will require us to feed up to 200 people each week. Congregations are needed to choose a Tuesday between October and May that they will be responsible for the meal. This would include purchasing the food, cooking,
serving and cleaning up. Please join us in providing one of these meals this year from MLC! That means pitching in on the cost, helping cook (either at MLC or LSS), going to LSS to serve the meal & clean up. If part of those jobs works for you, that
is great! Perhaps you can help with cost OR cooking and serving - that would be wonderful! Call Kathryn 952-412-5067 or the church office.
