Mission Trip 2008
We will be traveling to Beattyville Kentucky, a small town in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. Beattyville is located on the Kentucky River about 80 miles south east of Lexington. As of the census of 2000, there were 1,193 people, 509 households, and 294 families residing in the city. The racial makeup of the city was 98.99% White. The median income for a household in the city was $12,336, and the median income for a family was $21,181. The per capita income for the city was $13,850. About 39.1% of families and 41.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 48.7% of those under age 18. Today many people have to drive to Lexington to find work.

Our job during the 2008 mission trip will be to work on historic homes; not just painting but doing roofing, repair, and building new homes with habitat for humanity. Through the work of Habitat for Humanity thousands of low income families have found new home, in the form of affordable housing. Churches, community groups, and other have joined together to successfully tackle a significant social problem and decent housing for all. Today Habitat for Humanity has built more than 200,000 homes, sheltering more than 1,000,000 people in more than 3,000 communities worldwide.
