Welcome to Confirmation at MLC!
We are excited to kick off the 2010-2011 Confirmation program at MLC this year! You will notice a few changes and some fun things planned. Together, we’ll learn, explore and grow in our faith in new and exciting ways!
Confirmation is about preparing to take on responsibility for your own faith, resulting in you publicly affirming your baptism. It’s about fulfilling the promises that your parent(s) made for you in baptism, when they agreed to:
“Faithfully bring you to the services of God’s House, and teach them the Lord’s Prayer, the Creed, and the Ten Commandments as they grow in years, you should place in their hands the holy scriptures, and provide for their instruction in Christian faith” (LBW Pg. 121).
Confirmation is a commitment that parents and youth make in partnership with the church in order to grow in Christian faithfulness.
At Confirmation, we will look into the things that define our religion, such as Scripture, the Creeds, The Ten Commandments and the Lord’s Prayer. Most importantly, we learn about the Love of God whose commitment to us is so strong that He chose to die for each one of us.
MLC’s Confirmation program is a three-year ministry that begins in the fall of the 7th grade year and ends with the Rite of Confirmation in mid-May for 9th grade youth. The main Confirmation time is on Wednesday nights from 7:00-8:00 pm (with a Family Supper 6:00-7:00 pm and Confirmation Worship Arts from 6:30-6:55). Each Confirmation session will have some time spent as a large group hearing the message that will explain the theme for the night. The large group is about worship, community, and teaching. For the remainder of the hour, small groups will meet where you will talk about the week’s topic and how it applies to your life as a student, a family member, and a Christian. The program offers a wide variety of learning experiences and has built in flexibility to meet a diversity of individual needs and learning styles.
